The increased visibility of pervasive games makes them attract completely new audiences, opening up the possibility of new revenue channels and business models. This opportunity may meet with challenges from the prevailing gaming industry and current methods for game development. However, just as computer games emerged parallel to existing media such as cinema, pervasive games represent a new and parallel stream of development to current computer games, opening up new markets rather than competing with existing ones. Research on business and organisational aspects was undertaken in the following areas:

  • Target groups. Identifying and understanding the (potential) players of pervasive games.
  • Market structure. Organisation of the market for distributing pervasive games.
  • Revenue streams. A new value chain means new revenue channels.
  • Product life cycle. Rethinking games as products. New models for game development and the game production life cycle.
